How PepLine catalog entries are classified, formatted and recorded — and how to read a catalog entry before you order it.

Feb 4, 2026 · 6 min read

Every PepLine catalog entry is built from the same small set of recorded fields. Knowing what each field means — and what it deliberately does not mean — makes the catalog faster to work with and harder to misread.

Catalog number

The catalog number identifies a specific catalog entry at a specific size. It is the identifier to quote in a support enquiry, a purchase order or a documentation request. It is not a lot identifier: one catalog number can span many lots over time.

Research classification

The catalog is a single list. Entries are not grouped into research areas, because a grouping that names a physiological domain reads as a statement about what the entries within it are for. An entry is identified by its catalog number, its CAS registry number where one is published, its format and its strengths — properties of the material rather than assertions about its purpose.

Format and container

Format records the physical state of the material as supplied and the container it arrives in — for example a lyophilized powder in a sealed glass vial, or a solution in a sealed glass vial. Format determines how the material should be received, recorded and stored, and it is the field most worth checking before an order is placed.

Documentation status

Documentation status tells you whether a document set has been published for the entry. Where it has, the documents are indexed by lot in the COA Library and linked directly from the product record. Where it has not, the record says so rather than leaving the question open.

Fields that are absent on purpose

PepLine product records show a field only when actual data exists for it. If a molecular formula, molecular weight, sequence or analytical figure is not shown, it is because no verified value has been supplied for that record — not because it was omitted for brevity.

  • A missing field is a statement of absence, not an oversight.
  • No specification is inferred from a related compound or a published reference.
  • No purity figure appears anywhere on this site unless it comes from a supplied document.
